Fallout - Who Bombed The United States?
There are many countries that could've bombed the US, all of them either related to history or the story itself. Many people get one place stuck in their head and decide, "That's who's responsible for the Fallout series!" I, on the other hand, am open to any suggestions, so I have theories of many places that could've bombed them and why they bombed them. The first theory is that Russia bombed them. To expand on that theory, I must have a quick history lesson. Through World War II, Russia (at the time the Soviet Union) and America were allies against the National Socialist German Workers' Party, or the Nazis. However, this relationship was very strained. At the end of WWII, the US and the Soviets were in an argument of who had the better weapons. They created bigger and deadlier weapons, mostly nuclear bombs, and this competition became known as the Cold War. Now, what if the Soviets never knew the Cold War had ended? The Soviets could've created larger and stronger bombs until they decided to prove that they were stronger once and for all. This then leads to the bombing of the US, the lives in the Vaults, and the nuclear fallout that is the game series. The next theory focuses on the possibility of the bombers being China. Before I continue, more history is needed. In 1945, America was trying to make Japan surrender from combat in WWII, and they tried many things. They tried persuasion, they performed raids, all of this for nothing. Then, America made a connection. They had been working on something called the Manhattan Project, and thought that this could end the war quickly. They made an agreement with the UK and Canada, and decided to make them surrender due to nuclear firepower. On August 6, America dropped the uranium-powered atom bomb, codenamed "Little Boy", on Hiroshima. It killed seventy thousand people instantly, and even more people died due to radiation. Japan persisted through the war, but America was prepared for this. Three days later, America dropped the plutonium-powered atom bomb, codenamed "Fat Man" (references!) on Nagasaki, which killed 40,000 instantly and many more due to the nuclear fallout. Japan surrendered due to this, and America celebrated. What if Japan decided to take revenge? The country could've decided to work with China and build many atom bombs, then bomb the entire US in revenge. This theory is mostly supported in-game, which makes it the most popular. In some advertisements around the Commonwealth, there are posters that say "Spotted a commie devil?" with a picture of a demon wearing a hat with the symbol of Communism on it. There are many more references to Japan in-game, but I have one more theory that I prefer to use when talking. I think America bombed themselves. This one is directly related to the story, so no more history. Class dismissed! Anyways, in the beginning, when the main character is going over their speech before the game starts, he/she says, "But then, in the twenty-first century, people awoke from the American dream. Years of consumption lead to shortages of every major resource... Peace became a distant memory." Basically, it says that people found out that everything was a lie, and decided to revolt against the government. This leads me to think that America bombed themselves for two reasons: One, they wanted to put an end to the revolts and/or two, they wanted to get people in Vaults so the amount of money they spent wasn't wasted. Wait, doesn't that mean that Vault-Tec could've been the bomber? Hmmm... Well, I don't want to get into that, so I'm gonna end this here. Feel free to leave your opinions, and please spread the word about this blog! I'd really like more people to see this. And just remember, war never changes, so stay safe!
